Eclecticism has always played an essential role in Julie’s Haircut’s music. Never satisfied with their research and forever intrigued by the endless possibilities of the sonic texture, in a career now spanning twenty years the Italian sextex has been experimenting with different sources and traditions, from rock to improv. Thus it is not surprising that few months after the release of their seventh long player, and debut album with Rocket Recordings, the eclectic kraut-psych gem Invocation And Ritual Dance Of My Demon Twin, the band returns with a track that ideally fills the missing gap between post punk and electronica, taking the best from both worlds.
Burning Tree – a dreamlike tale of two pyromaniac lovers finding their way through the night – lifts up among waves of digital beats and analog synthesizers, while maintaining the band’s typical obsessive rhythms and repetitive licks. It is a song that sounds as if Mercury Rev collaborated with Hookworms and were produced by Giorgio Moroder, finally clashing somewhere on a patchouli soaked, post-industrial dancefloor.
Burning Tree is backed up with a remix of the track Orpheus Rising (track from their latest album) by label mates Gnoomes.
The Russian three piece have taken the downtempo jazz vocal of the original track and added an ever evolving, electronic-kraut, sonic-soundscape.
